Hello everyone,

We have less than four weeks until sine die. While there was little movement in the bills the CSPA is tracking this past week, there was plenty of action at the Capitol. The two tax bills that the business community has been anticipating were introduced. House Bills 1311 and 1312 will reduce or eliminate approximately $375 million in annual tax breaks for businesses and individuals and use much of the money to increase the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit and the business personal property tax exemption. The House Finance Committee heard both bills on Friday with the hearing lasting until just after 10:30 pm.

This week, I anticipate the House will debate HB 1250 concerning measures to address law enforcement accountability. In addition, the Senate will likely debate SB 174 concerning peace officer credibility disclosures and HB 1142 concerning eyewitness identification show-ups. SB 062, the Jail Populations Managements Tools bill, is awaiting a hearing from the Senate Appropriations Committee. Only 26 days until the General Assembly is required to adjourn sine die.
