Hello everyone,

The 2025 legislative session is already one-quarter over and a sure sign that we are starting to get into the meat of the session is that this past week was Supplementals Week in the Senate.

As many of you know, supplemental bills are bills that make mid-year adjustments to each department’s annual budget. SB 105, the Department of Public Safety Supplemental Bill, does not make any changes to the State Patrol’s budget. However, there was a lot of discussion on SB 105 centered on the CBI and the fallout from the Missy Wood’s situation. SB 105 passed the Senate on a vote of 29 to 2 and now heads over to the House with the other supplemental bills.

On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously passed SB 060 Repeated Phone Calls Obstruction of Government Operation which the CSPA supports. SB 060 expands the offense of obstructing government operations to include a person who repeatedly contacts or calls a public safety emergency call center without a legitimate purpose. Obstructing government operations is class 2 misdemeanor. SB 060 is currently scheduled to be heard on second reading in the Senate today.

Friday was Military Appreciation Day. Representatives and senators met in the House to discuss 11 different resolutions. These resolutions celebrated the following: Military, Veterans, and POW/MIA Appreciation Day; Gold Star families, the U.S.S. Pueblo; veterans of World War II, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, and the Persian Gulf War; the 10th Mountain Division; Latina and Latino veterans; Native American veterans; and African American veterans. Each of the 11 resolutions passed the House unanimously.

So far, there have been 332 bills introduced – 173 in the House and 159 in the Senate. Only 86 more days until the General Assembly adjourns sine die.
