Hello everyone,

This was an extremely slow week at the Capitol so this will be a very short update. Both the House and the Senate did not meet on Monday so members could participate in Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in their districts. On Tuesday, Governor Polis gave his fifth state of the state speech. During the speech he echoed many of the same themes we heard during the legislative leaders’ opening day speeches – affordability of housing and healthcare, and public safety – although Governor Polis also threw in a Yoda impression and references to Lord of the Rings and South Park in his 70-minute speech. Like many metro-area school districts, the House and the Senate were closed on Wednesday due to snow. On Thursday and Friday, committees met to continue early session presentations and briefings.

So far, there have been 159 bills introduced – 95 in the House and 64 in the Senate. No bills have been heard in committee yet. However, that will change this week and things should start moving. Only 105 more days until the General Assembly adjourns sine die.
